Craig T. Beling is a father of nine children and resides in Dana Point, California. Three of his children are currently enrolled at Pathway School. Craig currently manages his own law firm and serves as Corporate Counsel and Business Consultant for several domestic and international entities. He graduated with honors from Harvard University and received a JD from Boston College Law School (cum laude). Craig and his wife, April’s, passion has always been for the hopeless, widows and orphans. He has had the opportunity to lead mission trips in many countries and is intimately involved in an organization that now has 2,500 self-supporting villages in 11 countries in Africa. Craig recently returned from a trip to Uganda where he helped get children released from prisons and assisted the judiciary in reforming their laws and procedures. Craig believes that what leads to success in life are character, perseverance, empathy and faith and these are the traits that Pathway School instills in our children. He is passionate about providing education about and access to Pathway for the families whose children would benefit from its unique education and perspective.
Retired Head of School
Mark states that his biography below has been enriched beyond measure by his wife of forty-nine years, Mary Ann, and four children – Mark Jr., Dann, Sarah and Deborah. They continue to provide the love and support that motivate him to be the best he can be.
Mark was fortunate in his personal educational experience to have attended an excellent private school in Indianapolis, Park School, followed by Williams College, in Massachusetts; the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis (BS); University of Missouri, Kansas City, (MA in Educational Administration), and finally University of San Diego, Coursework towards E.D. This path, plus four years in the Marines Corps, led him to seek opportunities to give back to the educational community and the children they serve.
Mark taught math and coached at Pembroke Country Day School, Kansas City, Mo.; became Assistant Headmaster and Principal of the High School at The Bishop’s School, La Jolla, CA; followed by Headmaster, St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, San Juan Capistrano, CA. and then Head of School at Hillcrest Academy, Temecula.
Since retiring from full time school administration Mark has worked with a number of private schools in South Orange County in various capacities. He also served on the Boards of Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, and St. Mary’s School in Aliso Viejo. Susie Wenger, Pathway Founder, asked him to join the Pathway Board when the school was still on the Ladera Ranch campus and it has been a joy and privilege to continue to support her and this school since that time. Having turned his life over to Christ as an adult, he and his wife, Mary Ann, have focused their giving of time, talent and treasure on institutions that further the Gospel. Pathway does this day in and day out, and has had an incredibly powerful impact on scores of children who have had the privilege to attend this school.
Michaela Ellis has been married to her college sweetheart, Lou, for 19 years. Together, they have three wonderful sons, ages 15, 14 and 12 years old. Their 14-year-old son is a Pathway student and currently in 8th grade. They have been at Pathway school for 4 years and say that their experience has been very impactful for both their son and family. Michaela became a Pathway School Board so that she could contribute and assist the school with its further development.
Michaela worked for the YMCA, a non-profit, Christian organization, for 17 years until she resigned to spend more time focusing on her three sons. While at the YMCA, she worked with parent advisory committees, program development committees and the board of directors. Michaela was responsible for managing budgets totaling over $2 million, interviewing, hiring and training staff for school age child care programs, as well as committee outreach, marketing, and fundraising for my department.
In addition to her work at the YMCA, she has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education Psychology and Sports Medicine from Coe College.
Currently Michaela works as a substitute in the Special Education department of Capistrano Unified School District. There, she assists teachers with the implementation of curriculum in SDC classes or one-on-one with specific students as an independent facilitator.
Suzy received her CA Life Teaching Credential and Bachelor degree from University of Redlands, and taught 1st-8th grades for eleven years in five different school districts. After starting her family, she continued with substituting, tutoring and becoming a Sr. Manager for Discovery Toys for 10 years. Further career highlights included 5 years in entertainment management and serving as Office Manager at Pathway School for 12 years. Believing in Pathway’s mission, Suzy felt led to come alongside the Founder in order to promote, grow, serve and encourage leadership, staff, students and parents. Her prayer was to make herself available and has served as Board Secretary since Pathway’s inception.
Executive VP, Watson Land Co.
Jeff is the President and CEO of Watson Land Company, one of Southern California’s oldest real estate companies, and one of the nation’s largest developers of master-planned industrial centers. As President, Jeff is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s 20 million square foot portfolio. His many years in the commercial real estate industry have made him an expert in customer service, portfolio management, new construction, project transition, tenant retention programs, and leasing & marketing. Prior to joining Watson, Jeff was the Vice President and Regional Manager at Charles Dunn Company.
Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance with an emphasis in Real Estate from the University of Southern California and completed the Executive Education Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a member of many industry trade organizations and he serves or has served in leadership roles at various charitable organizations, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Santa Margarita Catholic High School, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Big Brothers Big Sisters Orange County, and Serra Catholic School. Jeff is married to his college sweetheart, Ann Marie, and they have four children. Jeff joined the Pathway School Board in 2014 while his two younger children were attending Pathway. He is passionate about Pathway’s mission and future.
Sr. Director of Managed Markets, Avanir
Jeff is a VP of Market Access and Payer Strategy at Greenwich Biosciences. He and his family moved from the Philadelphia area about 6 and one-half years ago. They live in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Jeff is a Graduate of the Ohio State University with a Masters in Education from the University of California at Berkeley. Jeff and his wife, Rebecca, have three kids, the youngest being a former student at Pathway. Jeff says that he has seen the difference Pathway has had on the development of his son, Calvin. He volunteers on the Pathway Board to ensure more children that struggle in a typical classroom setting have the opportunity to reach their God given potential!
Gail is a Business Analyst with Provident St Joseph Health Heritage Medical Group. She has a Bachelor degree from UCLA and thirty years of experience in healthcare finance and operations. Most importantly, she is the mother of an alumni. Her son attended Pathway for six years and she has seen the incredible things this school can achieve in the children. Gail joined the Board to help make a difference in the futures of children.
CPA, Managing Director of Wright, Ford, Young CPAs
Robert (Bob) Wright founded Wright Ford Young & Co. CPAs in 1973. He spends most of his client time in the management service area of the practice. He actively consults regarding strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, tax planning, and planning regarding major transactions. He has served on several of the firm’s client advisory boards and has been involved in client acquisition and divesture activities domestically as well as internationally.
Bob is actively involved in several professional and nonprofit organizations. He has been a member of Vistage, a worldwide chief executive organization (previously known as TEC), since 1983. He has also served on several nonprofit boards including passed treasurer of The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. He currently serves as a director for the Keith and Judy Swayne Family Foundation as well as being a board member of Pathway School, a school dedicated to helping children with special learning difficulties. Bob is a great advocate for children and believes what these children get from Pathway can and do change the children’s course for life.
Karen is a recently retired public school administrator. Prior to retirement she served as Assistant Superintendent, Learning Support in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District for 12 years. Karen earned her Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Fullerton in Business Administration with a Concentration in Accounting; her Master of Science in Educational Administration from National University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of La Verne. She has a granddaughter that attends Pathway who was suffering from anxiety and unsuccessful in her neighborhood public school. Pathway made an immediate and significant impact on her granddaughter’s academic success and self-worth. Karen joined the Board in October 2016 with a desire to give back to Pathway for changing the life of your granddaughter, and is currently serving as Principal of Pathway.
