A Christian School in Orange County Supporting Kids with Dyslexia

If your child is bright but reading feels like a daily battle, you are not alone. Many families come to Pathway School after years of watching their child work harder than everyone else and still fall behind. Pathway is a small Christian school in Laguna Hills, California, for students in grades 2–8, and many of our students learn differently, including kids with dyslexia.

Signs your child may need a different kind of classroom

  • Reading is slow and tiring, even when your child understands the story

  • Spelling and writing lag far behind what they can say out loud

  • They guess on tests or avoid reading aloud

  • Homework takes hours and often ends in tears

  • They have started to believe they are not smart

How Pathway helps students with dyslexia

Small classes. Our 1:10 teacher-to-student ratio means teachers notice right away when a student is stuck.

Multisensory instruction. Students learn by seeing, hearing, moving and doing. Reading and spelling lessons use more than one sense at a time, which helps many kids with dyslexia hold on to what they learn.

Small-group literacy intervention. Students get leveled reading support in small groups, at the level where they are ready to grow.

Learning Center time every day. Extra help in reading and writing is built into the school day, so students get support without missing core classes.

Placement by subject, not by age. Each student is placed by academic level in each subject. A child who reads below grade level can still move ahead in math or science.

Irlen screening at no extra cost. Some students who struggle with reading also have trouble processing what they see on the page. Every Pathway student is eligible for Irlen Syndrome screening, with parent consent.

On-site therapy. Occupational therapy is included in tuition, and speech therapy is available on campus.

More than reading scores

Many students arrive with low confidence after struggling elsewhere. At Pathway they learn how they learn, practice strategies that work for them, and learn to speak up for what they need. Our Christian community, with chapel every Friday, helps every student know they are valued.

Questions parents ask

Does my child need a dyslexia diagnosis to apply?

Is financial aid available?
Yes. About 3 in 10 Pathway families receive need-based tuition assistance.
